Los Blancos enter the race for Jovetic.
It’s bad news for Arsenal as striking target Stevan Jovetic looks more likely to swap Fiorentina for Real Madrid than north London, according to the Daily Star.
Jovetic is one of Europe’s most coveted forwards currently with Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus having also expressed interest in the Montenegrin.
However, with Madrid likely to sell Gonzalo Higuain to the Gunners and a deal for £54m rated Edison Cavani of Napoli up in the air, the Spanish giants have turned their attention to the 23-year-old.
Jovetic has expressed his desire to leave Florence this summer, much to the anger of Viola fans and with a glowing reputation much of Europe’s footballl elite are showing interest in the striker.
The Montenegro international has scored 27 Serie A goals in the past two seasons at Fiorentina, as well as having netted 10 times in 24 appearances for his country.
Arsenal had been leading the race to sign Jovetic but the involvement of other clubs has complicated things for the Gunners and they have turned their attention to Higuain instead.
Manager Arsene Wenger is keen to state his intent in the upcoming transfer window, with £70m being given to the Frenchman to spend on new players following an eighth successive year without winning a trophy.
Wenger saw Jovetic as the ideal big name signing that would please the fans and make Arsenal more lethal in attack, but Madrid’s encroachment on the deal is bound to complicate things.
With Los Blancos in the running the 63-year-old is likely to have to look elsewhere.
