Raul reckons Spurs’ £100m Bale valuation is crazy…
Former Real Madrid and Spain striker Raul admires Tottenham winger Gareth Bale, but thinks Spurs are asking for way too much money, reports the Daily Mirror.
Tottenham’s tough negotiating chairman Daniel Levy wants over £100m for the 24-year-old flyer, which would smash the world transfer record, which Real Madrid set in 2009 when they spent £80m on Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Bale is a wonderful player and would bring a lot to Madrid, but he’s very expensive. Tottenham have overestimated his price,” said Raul.
The 36-year-old scored 321 goals in 741 appearances for Los Blancos, and was at the club during high-profile controversial purchases of Luis Figo from Barcelona, Zinedine Zidane from Juventus and Ronaldo from Inter Milan.
“I understand the Real Madrid board is working hard to assemble the best team possible,” Raul added.
Los Blancos have already added expensive young Spaniards Isco and Andrea Illarramendi to their squad this summer, spending over £60m in the process.
Tottenham are also one of the highest spending clubs in Europe this summer, acquiring Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue and Roberto Soldado, and seem set to sign Willian, too. Whether they are being so ambitious due to the expectance of an enormous fee from Madrid for Bale, or whether they are purely strengthening to get back into the top four remains to be seen.
