Among Man United’s big targets this summer were two Real Madrid scoring machines not named Ronaldo.
Though Man United ultimately settled on an expensive transfer for Anthony Martial, the Red Devils were apparently very keen on a trio of Real Madrid superstars.
According to the Metro, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez confirmed that Man United had expressed serious interest in three of the club’s biggest stars: Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, and Raphael Varane.
Perez stated that Man United were hoping to land Gareth Bale and Varane together. Though Arsenal were believed to have much more significant interest in Karim Benzema.
The news comes after Real Madrid have reportedly cut all ties with the Old Trafford outfit over the botched swap of David de Gea and Keylor Navas.
Bale and Benzema have been two of the best scoring threats in La Liga not named Cristiano Ronaldo. The 22-year-old Varane is one of the best defenders in La Liga and an international star for the French national team.
