Modric could return to White Hart Lane in part exchange deal.
Real Madrid are ready to offer Tottenham £30m plus ex-Spurs star Luka Modric for in-form forward Gareth Bale, reports the Daily Star.
Bale has been in outstanding form since the turn of the year and has scored 11 goals in his last nine games for club and country.
Despite Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas’ assertions that the club do not want to sell the 23-year-old, Bale has been linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid in recent weeks.
Los Blancos, who signed a strategic partnership with Tottenham following Modric’s £33m switch from White Hart Lane to the Bernabeu in the summer, are hoping that Modric will prove an enticing makeweight to persuade Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to sell.
The Croatian playmaker has struggled to make an impact since joining the La Liga Champions, despite scoring the opening goal in the club’s 2-1 Champions League last-16 second leg win over Manchester United on Tuesday.
The diminutive playmaker helped change the match at Old Trafford and earned praise from his manager Jose Mourinho after the game.
But the Star reports that the 26-year-old’s wife and young son are regular visitors to their home on London and are less happy in Madrid than London.
The tabloid also believes that Villas-Boas remains a huge fan of Modric – despite the playmaker refusing to play for Spurs when the Portuguese boss arrived at White Hart Lane in the summer.
Real reportedly owe the north London outfit around £20m in instalment payments for Modric and hope Spurs will write that off if they get the midfielder back plus £30m in cash for Bale.
