Benitez is set to be announced as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor in the coming days and the Spaniard will move quickly to snare the wanataway Liverpool star, according to The Mirror.
Former Reds boss Benitez brought Sterling to Liverpool in 2010 and is aid to be keen on the 20-year-old once more.
Real Madrid will face stiff competition for Sterling’s signature, with The Mirror reporting that Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal are all also interested.
Despite having another two years left to run on his contract, Sterling looks destined for a summer exit after consistently refusing to sign a new and improved deal at Anfield.
