The Red Devils were known admirers of the 2014 World Cup winner and were hoping the chance to work with Louis van Gaal would be enough to tempt Kroos to Old Trafford.
Yet in the end the Germany international chose Los Blancos over United and has since revealed that he made the correct decision in heading to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
“I chose Real Madrid and now I’m so happy. I was right to sign for Madrid,” Kroos was quoted by the Daily Express.
“Before coming here, I didn’t know what to expect, but I made the decision. I was looking for something new and I was lucky that I signed for Real Madrid.”
Kroos set Madrid back £24m – something of a bargain when it’s considered the midfielder is an established German international and has previously won three Bundesliga titles and the Champions League with Bayern.
In fact since arriving in the Spanish capital the 24-year-old has already added two more pieces of silverware to his collection with the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup and will be hoping for further success with Los Merengues in the future.
