Raphael Varane has rejected a shock move to Barcelona after the Nou Camp outfit met the youngster’s release-clause.
Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has rejected a move to Barcelona after the Catalans tabled a shock £25.5m bid for the Frenchman, reports Football Espana.
Barca’s bid is thought to have trigged Varane’s release clause but the defender’s representatives have informed the La Liga champions he is not interested in a move to the Nou Camp.
Manchester United are also interested in the centre-half, whose stunning form since January has earned him international recognition with France and kept experienced Portugal star Pepe out of the Los Blancos first-team.
Varane is understood to be keen to repay the faith shown in him by Real, and is not interested in following the likes of Luis Figo, Ronaldo and Luis Enrique in playing for both of La Liga’s biggest clubs.
Varane made 26 appearances for Real last season, including 11 in the club’s run to the Champions League semi-final.
