Spaniard set for move to Naples in reported €10m deal.
Real Madrid star Jose Callejon is set to undergo a medical tomorrow ahead of his move to Napoli according to an official statement released by the club, as reported by football-italia.net.
Despite none of the financial details of the move being released, it has been reported in the Italian media this week that the 26-year-old will cost the club €10m, while he will earn €3.5m per season.
It is understood that the Spaniard was specifically requested by Rafa Benitez, who is looking to fill the substantial gap left by Edinson Cavani.
The Uruguayan is expected to have his move to PSG announced tomorrow, while Callejon will simultaneously hope to come through his medical without any problems and seal a move to Naples.
“Early this afternoon Jose Maria Callejon landed in Naples. Tomorrow morning he will undergo a medical,” a club statement read.
Callejon scored three goals in 30 La Liga appearances for Madrid last season, although he was deployed as a squad player and therefore will be determined to work his way into Benitez’s first-team plans.
He will join fellow summer recruit Dries Mertens at the club, and speculation suggests that Napoli are still tracking Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao despite the president of Internacional denying any contact with interested parties.
Nevertheless, it is an exciting time for Napoli fans as Benitez begins to stamp his mark on the squad, although it will take a significant effort from the likes of Callejon to replace the goals of the prolific Cavani.
