Varane was once described as ‘the best young defender in the world’ by Jose Mourinho when the two worked together at Real – and the Portuguese is said to be bringing Varane to Stamford Bridge, with the club likely to have to start looking at replacements for John Terry and Gary Cahill over the long term.
With young Frenchman Kurt Zouma already at the club, Mourinho could put together what is likely to become one of the most formidable future international central defensive partnerships at club level.
