La Liga champions Real Madrid are eyeing up a big-money summer swoop for Tottenham Hotspur midfield player Gareth Bale, despite the Wales international being contracted to the White Hart Lane club until 2016.
Los Blancos are preparing for a major end-of-season overhaul at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the possibility of the Spanish giants parting company with both head coach Jose Mourinho and star player Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, Madrid president Florentino Perez, who himself is about to embark on a re-election campaign to win another term at the head of the world’s biggest club, is planning on replacing the Portugal international with Spurs’ own flying wide man.
And Perez is confident that if the North London club fail to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League, that the 23-year-old winger will be receptive to the idea of swapping White Hart Lane for the Spanish capital come the summer, especially at a price of £40m.
Should Jose Mourinho depart Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, the Mirror also report that Real Madrid could commit a further £10m to also bring Andre Villas-Boas from Spurs.
