Los Blancos want Liverpool’s Suarez if they fail to land the Welshman.
Liverpool striker and Arsenal target Luis Suarez has emerged as a transfer target for Real Madrid as the club’s pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale is going nowhere, reports Spanish newspaper Sport.
The giants of Spain have been trying to lure Bale from north London for some time, but with Spurs unwilling to part with their star man Los Blancos may give up the chase and settle for Suarez.
This development is sure to disappoint Gunners fans who have become frustrated at the club’s continued lack or progress in the transfer market and have already missed out on Gonzalo Higuain and Bernard.
A deal looked close for the Uruguayan until the former Premier League champions offered a bid of £40m plus one pound for the forward to try and activate a clause that turned out not to exist.
This offer was seen as an act of disrespect by the Reds and relations between the two English clubs have broken down as a result.
The Merseyside outfit are also likely to be more open to selling their best player to a foreign side as apposed to a league rival and therefore Madrid would probably have the advantage.
With Higuain having left the Santiago Bernabeu this summer for Napoli, the La Liga side are looking slightly light up-front with Karim Benzema leading the line alone.
A player of Suarez’s quality would certainly add to the ‘galatico’ ethos in the Spanish capital and would act as a marquee signing for newly reelected president Florentino Perez.
