De Gea has been heavily linked to a move to Real Madrid in recent months, with the 24-year-old yet to put pen-to-paper on a new and improved deal at Old Trafford.
According to The Sun, Real Madrid have already tabled a paltry £13m in an attempt to try and take advantage of the situation with De Gea having just 12 months to run on his contract.
The newspaper reports that United management are requesting a fee between £25 and £30m as they know Tottenham star Hugo Lloris could cost as much as £30m should de Gea return to Spain.
Real Madrid reportedly want to complete the deal before jetting off to Australia for the International Champions Cup next month, but United are keen to play hardball over the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper.
United boss Louis van Gaal is resigned to losing de Gea and is believed to be keeping tabs on Lloris.
