The record fee ever paid for a ‘keeper remains the £33m Juventus forked out for Gianluigi Buffon back in 2001, but Los Blancos will eclipse that to land de Gea.
Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has doubts over the capabilities of long-term star Iker Casillas and also doesn’t see summer signing Keylor Navas as the future between the sticks for his side either.
This is what has drawn the Italian to de Gea, with Ancelotti believing the 24-year-old can emulate the early years of Casillas at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and become a true club legend.

De Gea put in another Man of the Match performance during the 3-0 Premier League victory over Liverpool on Sunday and United will understandably be reluctant to part with their prized asset.
However, having come through the ranks at Atletico Madrid, de Gea may been tempted by a return to his home city and the chance to play for Los Merengues.
