Update: What’s happened so far with Carlo Ancelotti and Liverpool
Liverpool approach Carlo Ancelotti to take over from Brendan Rodgers
He was able to win the UEFA Super Cup and Copa del Rey titles in his debut season with Real Madrid though, making his sacking a relatively controversial decision.
Ancelotti has stated his intention to take a sabbatical for a year if sacked by Real Madrid, as he is recovering from back surgery.
However, it will be difficult for Ancelotti to stay true to his word on taking a year off since he is already receiving an offer for one of the most high-profile jobs in football.
Liverpool has reportedly extended an offer to Ancelotti for him to become their new manager, indicating that they are prepared to move on without Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers has been added to the list of hot seat candidates ever since Liverpool’s season finale against Stoke City, which turned out to be disastrous as they allowed five first-half goals and lost, 6-1.
Liverpool finished in sixth place as a result, as Tottenham Hotspur won their final match of the season to earn three points and finish in the top five.
Ancelotti is expected to seriously consider the Liverpool job, and it’s reportedly the only job that would make him change his mind.
