Sunderland should be far and away by now, but their form under Gus Poyet deteriorated and has now left them bereft of confidence. A morale boosting win over neighbours Newcastle should stand them in good stead, but with visits to Everton, Arsenal and Chelsea all still to come there are serious concerns that they could nosedive.
