The Atlanta Falcons are still searching for their new head coach after firing Mike Smith, who was fired for the Falcons missing the playoffs for the second year in a row and failing to win more than one playoff game.
Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin has been in the mix after working miracles with the Lions defense in his first season with the team. The Lions ranked first in run defense, second in total defense and third in scoring defense.
The Falcons are in need of a major change on defense after finishing dead last in total and pass defense. The Falcons already have a prolific offense with quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Julio Jones leading the way, so a defensive mind may be just what the Falcons need.
Austin is also expected to interview with the Chicago Bears. Pro Football Talk reported on the Falcons’ latest head coaching rumors on Twitter.
