Baltimore Ravens WR Steve Smith Sr. plans to return to the team for a 15th NFL season despite rumors that he might be planning to retire.
“Thank you so much for embracing me. I hoped for a good season and now I look back it was a GREAT season this old man played for you and my teammates. I’ve enjoyed every moment and couldn’t have asked for a better fan base. Look forward to a better season next year and watch us go WIN IT ALL. #agent89 Out,” Smith wrote on Instagram.
Smith had 79 catches and 1,065 yards, leading the Ravens in both categories in 2014. And with WR Torrey Smith possibly heading to free agency, it makes Smith’s return a significant one for the offense. He has two years left on the deal he signed with Baltimore last year.
From 2001 to 2013 Smith was a star WR for the Carolina Panthers, making four Pro Bowls and three All-Pro selections. He is the Panthers’ all-time leader in every major receiving category.
Smith finished his first season in Baltimore with three catches for 49 yards and a TD against the New England Patriots.
