The Buffalo Bills fired Jim Schwartz as their defensive coordinator shortly after Rex Ryan was announced as their new head coach.
Ryan has decided to maintain continuity by hiring New York Jets defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman as Schwartz’s replacement.
The Bills possessed one of the best defenses in the NFL this season as they led the NFL in sacks with 54 and ranked fourth in points allowed per game with 18.1.
The Jets also had a fearsome defense. Although their pass defense left a lot to be desired, their defensive line was one of the best as the Jets ranked fifth with 93.1 rushing yards allowed per game.
Sports Illustrated announced Ryan and Thurman’s reunion on Twitter.
