At 5-8-1 and half a game ahead of the New Orleans Saints for the NFC South title, the Carolina Panthers need a jolt to get them over the top and into the playoffs. They may get it in Week 16 with their starting QB returning.
Cam Newton, who was injured in a car accident this past Wednesday and missed Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will reportedly be available and ready to play in Week 16 against the Cleveland Browns.
NFL Insider Ian Rapoport broke the story on Sunday morning:
#Panthers are optimistic that QB Cam Newton (2 back fractures) will be ready to play next week, source said. Will take it day-to-day.

Newton suffered a pair of back fractures in a car accident in Charlotte, North Carolina. No charges were filed as no one was deemed to be criminally at fault for the accident.
Panthers backup QB Derek Anderson filled in for Newton against the Buccaneers and led them to a 19-17 victory. He completed 62.5% of his passes and did not turn the ball over.
