Former NFL running back Ray Rice, who has been released by the Baltimore Ravens for punching his wife in an elevator, was also suspended indefinitely by the NFL.
When the story began to surface, Rice was suspended for only two games. This stirred a major controversy among football fans, who mostly felt this punishment was too lenient.
This has become an even bigger outrage as fans discovered a video of Rice punching Janay Rice, who was known at the time as Janay Palmer since they were only engaged at the time.
However, there is more to the story of commissioner Roger Goodell keeping Rice’s initial punishment. According to a report, Janay admitted that she was partially to blame for her husband’s fit of rage.
This caused the commissioner to tell NFL owners that suspending Rice for a significant period of time would be disrespectful to his wife since it would assassinate her character.
