Detroit Lions center Dominic Raiola became the center of controversy for stomping on the ankle of Chicago Bears defensive tackle Ego Ferguson.
This incident is similar to when Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh stomped on former Green Bay Packers center Evan Dietrich-Smith in 2011.
The Lions have been bracing for a suspension as a result. Reports are saying that Raiola will indeed be suspended for one game.
This could not have come at a worse time for the Lions since they will be facing the Green Bay Packers on the road with the NFC North title on the line.
Fortunately, the Lions have already clinched the playoffs, but home-field advantage will be given to the winner of this game as they will likely receive the No. 2 seed in the NFC.
Pro Football Talk broke the NFL’s decision on the Raiola incident.
Dominic Raiola will be suspended for Sunday’s game, per league source. He will have right to expedited appeal.
