Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has been appointed head coach of Indian Premier League side Mumbai Indians, the club announced.
The 39-year-old previously captained Mumbai in 2013 and takes over from John Wright ahead of the new season.
“We are delighted to have Ricky back with us and look forward to his contribution based on his experience and expertise,” said former Indian spinner Anil Kumble, who is now part of the Mumbai Owners Group.
“John Wright will continue his association with MI and will look after talent scouting and youth development, which is one of the areas that we would like to build a stronger base in years to come.”
Ponting worked as an advisor for Mumbai last season, but will now take on his first head coaching role.
