The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a contract extension with quarterback Alex Smith for roughly $17 million a year and $45 million in guarantees.
The Kansas City Chiefs are giving a contract extension to quarterback Alex Smith, who is entering his second season as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback.
Smith had led the Chiefs back to the playoffs with an 11-5 finish in the regular season just one season after they finished with a league-worst 2-14 record and held the first overall pick in the 2013 draft.
The Chiefs suffered a heartbreaking loss in the first round of the playoffs, but Smith performed well with four touchdown passes and no interceptions.
According to reports, Smith’s new contract is over four years and worth approximately $17 million per year and includes $45 million in guaranteed money.
Here is a tweet from Chiefs beat writer Terez Paylor confirming Smith’s new contract.
