DE Michael Sam has gone three days without being signed by an NFL team. That may change shortly.
The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly prepared to add DE Michael Sam to their practice squad if he passes a physical.
Sam is the first openly gay athlete in NFL history and was drafted in the 7th round of the 2014 NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams. But despite a strong preseason showing, the Rams cut Sam on Saturday and elected not to add him to their practice squad.
Sam is considered a pass rush specialist and the Dallas Cowboys are one of the few teams in the NFL that both utilize a 4-3 defense where he might thrive and a team that has a strong need for talent at the position.
Considering the state of the Cowboys defensive line and linebacking corps, the Cowboys may even add Sam to their 53-man roster if there are any injuries to the front seven.
