34-year old center becomes first player in history to come out as a homosexual in the NBA.
In what has been a controversial topic for much of 2013, especially in the NFL, it seems that the barrier for an openly gay player to come out has been broken, over long time starting NBA Center Jason Collins has come out in an interview with Sports Illustrated.
The front cover below shows the center comfortable with his admittance, and explaining why he did it:
This is a huge stepping stone in other players who participate in major US Sports to happily admit their sexuality, and fight back against prejudice from fans, media and fellow players who can discriminate those against them.
Collins has had a fine NBA career, being the long-time starting center for the New Jersey Nets, before leaving in 2008 to join Atlanta.
Now that Collins has bridged that gap, it may not be a shock to see more players doing the same in the upcoming weeks.
