This isn’t the first time Saints HC Sean Payton has been under the NFL microscope – but for his sake it should definitely be the last.

The NFL is investigating whether the New Orleans Saints violated NFL rules by “stashing” LB Todd Davis on the roster after he was claimed by the Denver Broncos. Davis was reportedly contacted by the Broncos after the Saints had waived him, but according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he was still at the Saints facility – a big no-no in the NFL.
The Saints may have been expecting that Davis would clear waivers so they could sign him to the practice squad, and as a result they reportedly kept treating him as if he were on the team. According to Schefter, the Saints are in line for a “stiff fine” from the NFL if the leagues investigation confirms that they violated the rules.
This latest potential scandal is yet another problem that has occurred under the watch of head coach Sean Payton. In 2012, he was suspended for the entire season for failing to take action in the infamous “BountyGate” scandal that resulted in several coaches and players being either dismissed or suspended and the forfeiture of a 2013 draft pick.
