Mariota is not expected to go first overall though, since Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston has reportedly been favored by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Mariota said that being picked first is not all that important to him.
Multiple NFL teams are not taking kindly to these words, which may hurt Mariota’s draft stock and possibly even push him out of the top 10.
Although Mariota’s words are realistic, teams with a later pick may get a chance to select what may be the steal of the draft.
Maybe even the Philadelphia Eagles will get a chance to draft him without having to trade up, which has been a popular rumor.
Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report was the first to report Mariota’s comments on Twitter.
Just passing along. Don’t blame messenger: more than a few teams not happy Mariota said he doesn’t care if he goes No. 1 overall.
