The outspoken former head coach of the New York Jets may be taking some time off from football to become a football analyst.
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, former Jets head coach Rex Ryan is interviewing with ESPN today for a possible analyst role, if he can’t get a head coaching job elsewhere.
In six years with the Jets, Ryan became one of the most colorful coaches on camera in NFL history. His interviews and press conferences have included everything from dressing up as his twin-brother Rob, calling out other coaches, making Superbowl predictions and arguments over decisions about the Jets QB situation.
But that is all most likely contingent on Ryan not receiving a job as an NFL head coach in 2015. He has already stated he doesn’t plan to take a defensive coordinator position – his biggest strength – but he is considered one of the top head coaching candidates.
