The San Francisco 49ers have lost the key components of their coaching staff, including head coach Jim Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
Harbaugh accepted the head coaching job at Michigan while Fangio took the defensive coordinator position with the Chicago Bears.
49ers defensive line coach Jim Tomsula was hired as the head coach, and they have found their new defensive coordinator.
Eric Mangini, who used to be the head coach for the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns, has been named Fangio’s replacement. He most recently worked as the 49ers’ tight ends coach.
He also served with the New England Patriots as a defensive assistant and defensive coordinator.
The 49ers defense has finished in the top five for the past four seasons, so Mangini will look to continue their success.
