Jim Harbaugh Michigan – San Francisco 49ers head coach to take Michigan job
The San Francisco 49ers and head coach Jim Harbaugh mutually parted ways immediately after their regular-season finale, and Harbaugh will be headed to Michigan to take their head coaching job.
The 49ers will not be going to the playoffs, so they will use their extra time to pursue Harbaugh’s replacement. According to a report, the 49ers have Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles on their list.
Quinn has helped the Seahawks be the top-ranked defense in the NFL for two consecutive seasons, and Bowles helped the Cardinals finish fifth in scoring defense this season despite them losing many key players to injury, free agency or suspension.
These players include safety Tyrann Mathieu, defensive end Darnell Dockett and linebackers Daryl Washington and Karlos Dansby.
The 49ers have consistently possessed one of the best defenses in the NFL since Harbaugh took over, and it appears that may be a mainstay if one of those defensive coordinators are hired. However, Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase is also a leading candidate.
