The San Francisco 49ers have been without some key players and have endured a 4-4 start as a result. Outside linebacker Aldon Smith is among these players, and this has greatly affected their pass rush.
Smith already has 42 career sacks in his first three seasons, but he has missed this season with a nine-game suspension for violating the personal conduct and substance abuse policies.
The 49ers were hopeful that Smith may be able to have his suspension reduced, but the NFL was not ready to reinstate Smith until he served his full suspension.
Reports are saying this is because the linebacker failed to complete drug counseling. Here is a tweet from Pro Football Talk of the latest story on Smith.
