The New Orleans Saints will not be getting rid of defensive coordinator Rob Ryan before the 2015 NFL season.
According to Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times Picayune, Ryan will be returning in 2015.
Ryan was criticized throughout the season, as the Saints defense dropped from No. 4 in 2013 to No. 31 in 2014 and giving up the 4th most points in team history. But Payton stuck with Ryan, dismissing a report that Ryan was on his way out.
“The relationship between Saints head coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has been rapidly deteriorating this season, with it privately acknowledged within the team’s headquarters that the men strongly dislike each other and a change is inevitable this offseason,” according to a November report from CBS’s Jason La Canfora.
Rob Ryan, who is the son of legendary Bears defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan, is the twin-brother of bombastic former Jets head coach Rex Ryan and speculation is rumored that he could be a possible candidate for Rex’s new coaching staff at whichever franchise hires him – even the Saints’ division rival Atlanta Falcons.
