It is no secret that Brendan Rodgers is not in full control of the transfer kitty at Liverpool.
The Reds boss is part of a transfer committee which also includes scouts Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter, board members Ian Ayre and Mike Gordon and director of technical performance Michael Edwards.
Over the last two summers, Liverpool have recruited 17 players to the first-team squad. Some have been picked by Rodgers, and some have been picked by other members of the committee.
Times journalist Tony Barrett, cited in the Echo, has identified four which were NOT Rodgers’ signings:
Mamadou Sakho
The French defender arrived from Paris Saint-Germain for £18m in 2013, but never truly seems to have had the full faith of Rodgers – doubts justified by his regular error-prone performances.
He started only 17 Premier League games in his debut campaign at Anfield, and Rodgers returned to the market only 12 months later to sign Dejan Lovren from Southampton – a signing of his choice.
