Divock Origi
The Belgian striker was signed for £10m from Lille last summer after a promising World Cup campaign, but remained in France for the 2014-15 campaign and managed only eight Ligue 1 goals.
Rodgers has signed both Danny Ings and Christian Benteke in this transfer window. Is that a sign that the Reds boss is already unsure of whether Origi is going to fit in at Anfield?
Conclusions:
The evidence suggests that Rodgers is less willing to give regular opportunities to the players which he did not handpick himself – none of the above committee signings played a single minute against Stoke City on Sunday. Is this why they have made less of an impact? Or have they made less of an impact because they are not suited to either the Premier League or Liverpool’s style of play?
The names above also suggest that Liverpool’s transfer committee are shopping abroad. Rodgers has worked in Britain for his entire career and tends to favour purchases from inside the Premier League. The question everybody wants answering is: Whose idea was it to sign Mario Balotelli?!
