Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has identified three main targets at centre-back to come in and shore up his back four on transfer deadline day, according to John Cross of the Daily Mirror.
Writing on a live blog for deadline day, Cross revealed that Arsenal have made enquiries over two Premier League-based centre-backs, with the departure of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona earlier this summer leaving the club short of depth in that position.
With the Gunners just one injury away from a possible defensive crisis, Wenger is seemingly aware of his need to strengthen before the summer transfer window closes, with these three players said to be top of his list:
3) Ron Vlaar (Aston Villa)
A rock-solid centre-back, Ron Vlaar is believed to be in Arsene Wenger’s sights after a solid couple of seasons at Aston Villa and some assured displays for the Dutch national team at this summer’s World Cup. Manchester United have also been linked with a move for Vlaar this summer, but he could now be Emirates Stadium-bound in a late twist in the summer transfer window.
