According to The Sun, the 20-year-old has told Kop bosses he will refuse to join the team as they jet off to Australia for its second pre-season tour of the country in three years.
Sterling has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield after reportedly rejecting a new and improved £100k-a-week deal and The Sun suggests cashed-up Premier League giants Manchester City are preparing to launch a £50m bid for the England international.
City also leave for Australia this weekend and have not yet made any further signings despite club bosses suggesting the club would spend big this summer.
It is believed City are keen to complete a deal for Sterling before the club leaves for Melbourne, however the Reds are likely to play hardball and will no doubt make it difficult for the Etihad-based club.
