The Buffalo Bills held a press conference introducing Rex Ryan as their new head coach, and he was quick to make a bold prediction that the Bills would make the playoffs.
“It’s been 15 years since the Bills made the playoffs. Well get ready, we’re going,” Ryan is quoted by Reuters as saying at his introductory press conference.
The Bills are currently in the midst of the longest active playoff drought in the NFL. The team has not made the playoffs since the 1999 season.
The Bills went 9-7 in 2014 under former head coach Doug Marrone, who three days after the 2014 regular season ended. It was their first winning season since 2004.
Ryan opened by tapping the microphone and asking if it was on because “it’s getting ready to be on.” He later denied a report that he preferred the Falcons and 49ers jobs to the one in Buffalo and kept going from there. He said that the Bills would build a “bully” and see if other teams want to face them for 60 minutes, that the Bills would lead the league in defense and took a shot at former Buffalo coach Doug Marrone by saying that the team deserved a “loyal coach.”
In 2009, Rex Ryan’s first season with the New York Jets, he guaranteed the team would have the No. 1 overall defense and would make the Superbowl. He was half-right and finished his career with a 46-50 regular season record and a franchise-record four playoff wins.
