Valencia are thought to have warned Manchester United that they will not budge from their £35m asking price for captain Nicolas Otamendi.
The Argentine is believed to be Louis van Gaal’s number one target as the Dutchman desperately seeks for defensive improvements this summer.
Reports in Spain have claimed that Otamendi has asked to leave the Mestalla, but Valencia will not allow him to leave unless his release clause is met.

United had apparently hoped to get the 27-year-old for £25m, but Plaza Deportiva understands that new Valencia owner Peter Lim has ruled out negotiations with the “rich” Old Trafford club, who have a rumoured £200m transfer kitty for the window.
Otamendi joined Valencia from Porto before the start of last season and made 35 appearances, scoring six goals, as Los Che finished fourth in La Liga.
