Chris Newman has signed a one-year contract extension with the Tigers.
Richmond defender Chris Newman will extend his AFL career into a 15th season after signing a one-year contract extension.
Newman will play his 250th game this weekend in Saturday’s must win clash with the Swans at ANZ Stadium.
Both Newman and the club moved to end speculation that this weekend could be his last game by announcing he will play on in 2015.
“I feel like I still have something to offer my team-mates, the club and the fans,” Newman said.
“I haven’t had too many injuries along the journey, so the body is feeling good. Being able to string together 16 games this season so far has given me confidence that I have some good footy left in me.
“More importantly, I still love the game, mentally I’m up for the challenge, and I want to be part of what Richmond is building towards.”
The eighth-placed Tigers must beat the top-of-the-table Swans on Saturday to earn a finals berth.
