Arsenal have a back-up plan if their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema fails ahead of the new season.
According to the Express, the France international remains Arsene Wenger’s priority target in the summer window; however, the French manager has a back-up plan if his bid to land the Real striker fails.
The English newspaper state that Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain has not been considered by the Gunners, but Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski is being monitored by the Premier League heavyweights.
Manchester United have previously been linked to the Poland international; however, with speculation seeming to have cooled, Arsenal may feel encouraged to pounce on the centre-forward’s signature.

What’s more, with Bayern CEO today confirming that a £28m agreement had been reached with Juventus for the sale of Arturo Vidal, the Bundesliga giants could potentially be open to sacrificing another senior star to fund the Chilean’s arrival after selling Bastian Schweinsteiger to the Red Devils for £14m.
Nonetheless, with Schweinsteiger having swapped the Allianz Arena for Old Trafford, it would certainly come as a huge shock if Pep Guardiola allows the Bavarian’s joint-top scorer to follow his former team-mate to England’s top flight.
