Van Persie’s own future at Old Trafford has come under question following a below-par season which saw him hit the back of the net 10 times as United finished well off the pace in fourth.
The Dutch international says United manager Louis van Gaal will look to bring in several reinforcements as the Red Devils look to make an assault on the league title next season.
“United spent £200m on players last year and they are going to spend another £200m this summer so we will have a team that can compete for the title,” van Persie is quoted as saying by The Mirror.
Van Gaal guided United to a Champions League spot this season following a disappointing seventh-placed finish in the 2013/14 season, but it now seems the former Bayern Munich mentor is set to undergo another spending spree this summer.
United have been linked to a number of world-class players, but risk losing no.1 ‘keeper David de Gea to Real Madrid.
