After Ferguson retired, David Moyes stepped into the hot seat, and while the team struggled, so much so that Moyes failed to see out the season, the former Arsenal forward still managed to hit the back of the net eighteen times.
The news that his national team boss, Louis van Gaal would become his club manager ahead of this season seemed to suggest that the 31-year-old would play an integral part in the revolution, and could maybe even be selected as captain, having been awarded the honour at international level. In the end, Wayne Rooney was given the armband.
Injuries have plagued van Persie’s year. Luckily for him, the awful time endured by loanee Radamel Falcao made his return of ten goals seem decent. However, according to the Daily Mirror, it is not enough to save his United career.
With one year left on his current contract – and with another not forthcoming – it is likely that the club will look to cash in on the player this summer. The 31-year-old is reportedly keen on ending his career back in his home country.
