Sabatini expected to meet with Ivorian’s agents to finalise deal.
Roma are closing in on the signing of Arsenal forward Gervinho according to reports in Italy, with the transfer likely to be completed next week.
It is believed that coach Rudi Garcia has specifically requested the Ivory Coast international, after the duo enjoyed a successful time together at Lille.
The Giallorossi have been open about their interest in the player since the Frenchman’s appointment, and it is understood that director of sport Walter Sabatini will meet with the player’s agents on Sunday to finalise personal terms.
Negotiations have been progressing well between the two parties, and they are optimistic that a deal will be reached in the coming days, with Roma looking to bolster their attacking options following the likely departure of striker Pablo Osvaldo.
Speculation in Italy suggests a fee in the region of €8m will be enough to prise the forward away from the Emirates as reported by Football Italia, as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in reinforcements of his own this summer.
Gervinho has had a mixed reception since his arrival in the Premier League, showing early promise before failing to deliver the same standard of football he produced in Ligue 1.
Nevertheless, Garcia believes that he can bring out the best in the star and allow him to flourish in Serie A next season as the club continue to strengthen their squad following the arrivals of the likes of Mehdi Benatia and Kevin Strootman.
In contrast, the future looks bleak for Osvaldo, who is being actively offered to clubs particularly in the Premier League, but the likes of Fulham and Southampton may be put off by the demands of the club.
