New boss Garcia looking to beat United to the signing of Dutch international.
Roma have been linked with a raid on the Eredivisie for PSV midfielder Kevin Strootman and Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Sporting director Walter Sabatini has reportedly flown in to Amsterdam and will also visit Eindhoven in a bid to wrap up deals for the duo, but it remains unclear how successful his trip will be at this stage.
PSV dismissed speculation that Strootman would leave this summer, stating that the 23-year-old Dutch international would spend at least one more season with the club.
However, with interest from Manchester United, the Giallorossi appear to be in no mood to wait around as new boss Rudi Garcia continues to chase down his primary targets ahead of the new season.
In addition, Ajax will also be under pressure to keep hold of their 24-year-old Belgian defender, as Alderweireld is also on the shortlist, but is attracting interest from Liverpool too.
It is understood that a deal for the latter is more likely, but it remains to be seen whether Roma are willing to meet the asking price of the Dutch giants.
Nevertheless, the capital club are looking to sell before they buy, with striker Pablo Osvaldo the most likely to secure an exit this summer.
The Italian striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Manchester City and Southampton, but as of yet no move has come to fruition.
It is a similar situation with midfielder Daniele De Rossi who has been courted by Chelsea, but considering his importance to the club it is unclear as to whether they would be willing to sell despite the words of president James Pallotta.
It promises to be a busy summer in Rome, but Garcia is eager to get his business done quickly to get his squad together for pre-season training.
