Bosnian international said to be of interest to Premier League side.
Roma fear that Tottenham will step up their chase for midfielder Miralem Pjanic if Gareth Bale is sold to Real Madrid.
The Giallorossi remain hopeful of selling striker Pablo Osvaldo this summer, but with Pjanic expected to be deployed in a three-man midfield along with Daniele De Rossi and Kevin Strootman this season, boss Rudi Garcia is said to be keen on holding on to him.
The 23-year-old joined the club from Lyon back in 2011 and has gone on to make over 50 appearances for the club as he looks to establish himself in the starting line-up under the new management.
There had been a great deal of speculation surrounding his future at the start of the summer, but Garcia appeared to have quashed rumours of an exit by installing him as an important part of his plans moving forward.
However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian giants still fear that Tottenham will increase their interest ahead of the transfer deadline, particularly in light of the on-going rumours surrounding Bale’s move to Madrid.
With the numbers being discussed, Andre Villas-Boas is likely to have significant funds available if the Welshman eventually departs, and he could eye a move for the Bosnian international.
Meanwhile, as Roma move closer to making Gervinho’s switch from Arsenal official, Gazzetta report that the club will look to bring in Uruguayan Under-20 international Gonzalo Bueno ahead of the new season.
Should a deal be reached, he will be the latest in a whole line of new signings at the Stadio Olimpico this summer, and with the club seemingly heading in the right direction it remains to be seen whether Pjanic will be convinced of staying to help develop the project.
