The 30-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, fuelling speculation that he could be on his way out of the Merseyside club as early as the January transfer window.
With plenty of options in the fullback department Liverpool are not likely to miss Johnson that much. Having signed Manquillo on loan from Atletico Madrid and with Jon Flanagan able to play on either flank, the veteran defender may soon find himself surplus to requirements anyway.
There is also alleged interest from clubs in the Premier League, Harry Redknapp’s QPR the front runners in that department, but more and more English players are moving abroad these days. Roma have recently signed his England international teammate Ashley Cole, so Johnson may find it easier to settle in the Italian capital.
The Liverpool man is currently out injured, so will find it even harder to cement a place in the team this season. If he is not getting the game time then he is likely to try and force his way out this January, and with the player seemingly having no shortage of suitors it shouldn’t be that difficult.
