West Brom loanee Romelu Lukaku will return to parent club Chelsea at the end of the season, Baggies boss Steve Clarke has confirmed.

As Fernando Torres continues to flounder in front of goal, it is easy to forget that Chelsea already own a striker who has earned widespread plaudits for his performances this season. While the forlorn Spaniard has managed just seven league goals in 28 appearances for the Blues, West Brom loanee Lukaku already boasts 13 (in just 13 starts) and, at 19, the Belgium international appears to have a big future in English football.
Lukaku complements raw pace and power with an ability to finish deftly and with service from Chelsea’s dynamic trio of Juan Mata, Oscar and Eden Hazard, the youngster should be among the league’s top scorers next season, provided he is given a chance by the west Londoners’ new boss.
If, as seems likely, Torres will be put out of his misery this summer and allowed to return to Spain, the prospect of seeing Lukaku in competition with Demba Ba is an attractive one for Blues fans and his return could save the club a few bob.
West Brom, meanwhile, will sorely miss the hulking striker, who has been instrumental to their fine form this season despite not being an automatic starter. Clarke will no doubt look to continue to exploit his connections at Stamford Bridge and, if legendary ex-Blues boss Jose Mourinho returns to the club in the summer, don’t rule out his former assistant Clarke coming calling for more of the club’s promising youngsters.
