Nico Rosberg has played down the fact that he will be a free agent in 2013 by stating that he is only thinking about Mercedes.
The German driver will be out of contract at a time when both Ferrari and Red Bull could be attempting to fill an empty seat with Felipe Massa and Mark Webber not guaranteed to be still be at their respective teams. With reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel committed to working under Christian Horner’s stewardship, Fernando Alonso set to be at Maranello until 2015 and Jenson Button having just signed a long-term contract to remain at McLaren Racing, the highy-rated Rosberg could find himself in a rather useful bargaining position at the end of next season.
However, the 26-year-old refuses to be drawn on the matter.
“I don’t really want to speak about the long term,” Rosberg told Autosport.
“All I can say is that I am very, very happy here, and it is great to see the direction this team has taken. I believe this team is going to make it, so that is all for now.”
