According to The Metro, the Gunners have been cleared to sign Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain after he rejected a new deal with the Italian club.
Higuain was already close to moving to Arsenal in 2013, but he instead opted to move to Napoli, who had Rafael Benitez as their manager at the time.
The Argentine international is keen to leave Napoli though, which he indicated by turning down a contract extension.
The 27-year-old striker has been a threat to score any time he touches the ball throughout his career, and he continued to shine with 18 goals in 37 Serie A appearances last season.
Higuain has notched 157 goals throughout his career, which is sure to excite Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners do not have any proven scorers aside from Alexis Sanchez, although Theo Walcott has shown a lot of promise when healthy.
It remains to be seen how Higuain can adjust to the speed and physicality of the Premier League if he makes the jump to the Emirates.
