French tactician set for reunion with former Lille star.
According to reports in Italy, Roma boss Rudi Garcia promised former player Gervinho he would sign him this summer, back in June.
The Ivory Coast international is expected to finalise a move to the Italian capital in the coming days, after undergoing a medical upon his arrival in Rome on Sunday.
The Giallorossi revealed over the weekend that the 26-year-old was in fact a long-term target that they have been monitoring for years, and it would appear that they have finally managed to secure his signature.
However, having appointed Garcia as the new coach earlier this summer, it has been suggested that the Frenchman promised his former star a reunion ahead of the new season.
The pair enjoyed a successful spell together in Ligue 1 at Lille before Gervinho departed for the Emirates where he was unable to find his feet and reproduce the same form on a consistent basis.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Garcia spoke to the player back in June and told him “not to commit to anyone” and that he would ” definitely take you with me”.
Garcia was appointed the new Roma boss back on June 12, and it appears he has fulfilled his promise as Gervinho prepares to complete a move reportedly worth €8m with an additional €2m in performance-related bonuses.
The Ivorian arrived at Trigoria on Sunday, telling journalists that he was “very happy” about joining the Serie A giants.
However, he will now be under pressure to deliver following his reunion with Garcia, and will undoubtedly be determined to repay the faith shown in him.
